Examples of supply chain projects carried out for our clients
Scouting and analysis of security solutions for supply chains of a manufacturer’s critical raw materials
Our client, a French manufacturer, noticed tension in their supply chain for certain primary materials (notably for their activities linked to the energy transition).
They asked for our help in carrying out an exhaustive analysis of their activities to identify all of their primary materials in order to analyze the possible risks to their supply and demand, and to understand their future internal needs in order to predict their potential exposure to shortages.
By taking into consideration the supply chain risks, the client’s needs, and the national ecosystem, we identified together all of the possible scenarios for limiting their risk exposure: reinforcing the local industrial sector, building a recycling sector, and even acquisition of players involved in local production sectors such as mineral extraction or refining.
Roadmap to develop shorter supply routes for school canteens
We helped a large French region in defining a strategic roadmap aiming to roll out a policy encouraging usage of local products in the region’s school canteens.
Our project allowed the client to understand the supply chains of current agrifood products and to identify and characterize different opportunities for changing their supply routes to achieve their objectives.
Defining the commercial and logistics strategy for a short shelf-life radiopharmaceutical
Alcimed worked with a top pharmaceutical client to plan their commercial and logistics strategy for a novel targeted radionuclide.
Across six countries, Alcimed determined in which cancer centers or clinics were most patients treated for three major indications and their level of nuclear medicine capabilities. Alcimed built hypotheses based on the best available data (diagnosis or surgery numbers percenter, presence of a PET scanner or level of accreditation, county-level cancer incidence, etc.) and challenged them during interviews with nuclear medicine physicians, pharmacists, and other stakeholders.
Alcimed deployed an automated approach to map 4000 clinics and hospitals and identify the shortest freight time to potential manufacturing sites through road and air. The exploration of this interactive map with our client helped us validate that even with a limited shelf life, most major cancer sites would be able to receive the drug and treat patients.
This enabled our client to prioritize its commercial efforts in key cities to launch, and also determine a broader market-shaping strategy to overcome capability gaps in key countries.
Diversification of the supply strategy of a green hydrogen producer
Alcimed supported an industrial player involved in the production of green hydrogen in its strategy to diversify its supplies.
In the first stage, we mapped the key areas of expertise to be considered in order to identify potential new partners, by analysing industrial fields outside our client’s ecosystem with a view to establishing technology transfers. Secondly, our team identified and evaluated the industrial players capable of meeting our customer’s specifications.
By broadening the field of possibilities, this approach enabled our customer to identify new partner profiles capable of supporting them in their future developments.
Assessment of the risk of insufficient supply of an antibiotic for the treatment of neonatal sepsis
We worked for a leading healthcare player facing the challenge to repurpose an existing antibiotic for neonatal sepsis to address antibiotic resistance.
Alcimed evaluated the demand for this antibiotic for neonatal sepsis due to bacterial infections, by analyzing the updated epidemiology across several geographies.
Our team then assessed the current supply capabilities of the antibiotic in the in-scope geographical areas to ultimately evaluate the risk of insufficient supply. Our project helped our client to understand the local constraints and better prepare for the operational challenges of their drug repurposing.
Analyzing Go To Market readiness for mRNA manufacturing ramp up
In anticipation of launching their first product, Alcimed helped a up and coming biotech company assess their manufacturing capabilities and logistics to identify potential bottlenecks in ramping up to full scale production.
Alcimed specifically surveyed the manufacturing plan for raw material sourcing to ensure sufficient supply of key ingredients from reliable partners.
The client was able to make key partnership and purchasing decisions to ensure that their manufacturing scale up had the correct contracts in place for both primary suppliers and secondary suppliers in order to smoothly transition in house from solely pre-clinical development to full scale manufacturer.
Definition of the future smart factory of an aeronautical manufacturer
Alcimed supported one of its leading clients in aircraft production on the design of its future factory 4.0. The objective of our client was to gain competitiveness and to be one step ahead of its competitors in terms of expertise in assembly and testing.
To do this, Alcimed began by making an inventory of the client’s expertise. Then, our teams carried out a benchmark of the existing best practices in the assembly industry, analyzed their impact on our client’s KPIs, and analyzed their transferability for our client’s activities.
Finally, using all this information, our team held several workshops with our client to define their ideal smart factory and be able to challenge its solution providers.
Development of a business case for the deployment of collaborative robots in the manufacturing sites of an aeronautics manufacturer
We worked for a leader in the aerospace industry to evaluate possible business models and develop a business case for the deployment of CoBOTs (Collaborative Robots) in manufacturing sites.
We assisted our client in evaluating the possible uses of these robots working in the same areas as the teams, in analyzing the induced savings and in developing the roadmap for the deployment of these machines.
A complete business case was built to support the project with our client’s management committee.

Position Paper Alcimed – Wind propulsion: how to decarbonize maritime transport
How does wind propulsion fit into the strategy of decarbonizing maritime transport?
Founded in 1993, Alcimed is an innovation and new business consulting firm, specializing in innovation driven sectors: life sciences (healthcare, biotech, agrifood), energy, environment, mobility, chemicals, materials, cosmetics, aeronautics, space and defence.
Our purpose? Helping both private and public decision-makers explore and develop their uncharted territories: new technologies, new offers, new geographies, possible futures, and new ways to innovate.
Located across eight offices around the world (France, Europe, Singapore and the United States), our team is made up of 220 highly-qualified, multicultural and passionate explorers, with a blended science/technology and business culture.
Our dream? To build a team of 1,000 explorers, to design tomorrow’s world hand in hand with our clients.
We’re not consultants, we’re explorers! Working with a consulting firm like Alcimed means living a different experience, with a team that always favors face-to-face meetings, goes beyond classic deliverables in favor of innovative ones (videos, data visualization tools, websites, collaborative platforms, …), that favors interactive animations in projects (escape games, quizzes, board games, role-playing games, video games, …), and that loves to make clients discover unusual places!
Alcimed carries out consulting missions in a variety of fields and on topics as diverse as the uncharted territories of our clients! Our projects and the methodological approaches we develop are based on the specific needs and contexts of our clients. We for example support our clients in defining their R&D or innovation strategy, in studying their target markets, in identifying and exploring new opportunities, in investigating innovative technologies, in defining their sales and marketing strategies, in integrating CSR or data science into their practices, or in imagining the future of their activities.
We have chosen to operate without using pre-established methodologies. Our consultants always start from the context and from the specific questions of our clients and think about the best way to provide clear answers. Let’s forget methodological approaches of copy-pasting.
Beyond analyzing the web and literature, and large internal or external data lakes using data science, our consultants target and interact with key stakeholders: these can be clients, suppliers, partners, experts, opinion leaders, end-customers or patients, … and we challenge their viewpoints. This investigative work enables us to build our clear opinion at the crossroads between the viewpoints of the different stakeholders, and leads us to build recommendations to allow our clients to make decisions.
Our team consists of 220 passionate individuals, with degrees from the best international schools and universities , most possessing a dual education in science/technology and business or data science. More than a third of our consultants have an international and multicultural background, and we master more than 20 languages and cultures, including the world’s most widely spoken ones: English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic and Japanese.
