Examples of projects carried out for our clients in the energy industry
Supporting an industrial client in building an industrial electrification offer
For a company in the energy sector, we conducted a market study to establish the positioning of its industrial electrification offer.
For this project, our team studied the different decarbonization strategies, the types of technology available and the specificities that exist in our client’s target sectors (O&G, metal, F&B, glass and cement). We then exchanged with decision-makers in these market segments, to gather their receptivity to our client’s decarbonization offer, with regard to their own commitments and industrial constraints.
As a result, our client was able to develop a better understanding of its sector’s current electricity needs and was also able to refine its offering to make it the most relevant in its market in view of climate change.
Definition of a materiality matrix for an energy player
ESG questions are becoming a crucial issue, notably for our client, who needed to adapt to new demands from banks, rating agencies, stakeholders and the grand public, in terms of environmental, social, and ethical approaches.
Our client had put in place local action plans, but they were not fully coordinated, and the communication around these plans was isolated.
The client wished to identify amongst the actions put in place which were the most impactful, and challenge them with an external point of view in order to build their strategic vision and their communication around the management of their ESG issues in the general sense. We supported this organization by:
- Mapping out the actions put in place by conducting interviews with the people in charge of these actions
- Identifying and selecting key criteria for stakeholders by benchmarking the strategies claimed by key players in the sector
- Building their sustainability strategy together with them, by putting in place a materiality matrix and prioritizing the key challenges
- Working on the strategy and plans of action associated based on the existing plans
Our assessment allowed the client to define a CSR strategy in line with the expectations of the market and their ecosystem, as well as clear areas of communication.
Prospective analysis of the distribution of hydrogen in airports in 2030 for a leading energy player
Our team has supported a major player in hydrogen distribution in identifying target airports for hydrogen supply in 2030 and in evaluating the associated access routes.
For this project, we analyzed the expectations and the needs of key players in the sector: governments, gas suppliers, the airports themselves and airlines.
After prioritizing the target airports according to their capacity to effect this change in the years to come, we identified the parameters that our client will have to take into account to support the airports in this change of practice, the various development scenarios, and the possible acceleration levers.
Design of sustainable digital solutions for an energy player
We worked with a parts manufacturer on a project aiming to measure the environmental impact of creating a new software. Our team carried out analyses and investigations to define different scenarios, selected the most promising one, and designed an ecodesign plan to achieve the most sustainable tool possible.
This project allowed our client to measure the impact of their future solution and to align their development teams on a concrete and realistic plan of action.
Strategic foresight: strategic reflection on the energy of cities of the future beyond 2050
One of our clients, a leader in the energy sector, wanted to prepare for the future and diversify its investments by developing scenarios for the city of the future beyond 2050 through a strategic foresight research.
Through the organization of internal brainstorming and ideation sessions, the realization of an external creativity workshop, the elaboration of scenarios and the organization of an illustration contest on crowdsourcing designer platforms, Alcimed was able to nourish its client’s strategic thinking on the future of energy in cities and to promote the projection of all internal teams on this subject.
External benchmark: analysis of digital customer communities for an energy player
For a leading energy player, we assessed the feasibility of developing a virtual customer community to promote energy efficiency in French overseas territories.
To validate the feasibility and relevance of such a community, our team carried out a benchmark of 30 existing virtual communities and 10 inspiring initiatives in different sectors, identifying the associated good practices, the pitfalls to avoid and transposing them to our client’s issues.
Finally, we recommended our client get started and also oriented him on the platform design and on the partners required to implement this initiative.
State of the art of partners offering technologies to produce water from air
For a player in the energy sector, Alcimed carried out a mapping of the technologies and associated suppliers allowing the transformation of air into water.
Our team implemented a three-step approach: a first identification of the main market data and trends, followed by a screening of the identified technologies on the basis of their level of maturity and key performance criteria for our client – leading to a listing of the companies active in the most promising technologies -, and finally an analysis of the companies on more economic criteria to complete the evaluation of potential partners.
Thanks to this state of the art, our client was able to identify and mobilize a network of key players for the development of its project.
