Examples of projects carried out for our clients in the field of artificial intelligence
Definition of the data acquisition strategy of an artificial intelligence initiative in diabetes
One of our clients, a leading pharmaceutical company, was interested in exploring the potential of external patient data in the United States and in Germany for an artificial intelligence initiative in the field of diabetes.
In a first step, Alcimed provided an overview on the major public and private data owners in the two in-scope countries. These data owners were then classified by our team in terms of data volume, quality, relevance and accessibility.
Based on these criteria, we prioritized some data owners as potential partners for our client and finally co-defined together a preliminary data acquisition strategy for this specific initiative.
Market receptivity study for an AI-based solution for anaesthesiology in Northern Europe
A global medical devices player wanted to test the market receptivity with regards to a solution they developed based on artificial intelligence and supporting the decision-making of anaesthesiologists regarding patients in coma.
Our team first assessed the strengths and weaknesses of the solution by setting up tests and by engaging with potential users in 9 Northern European countries. We also identified measures on how to overcome the identified barriers were equally identified.
After these steps, we conducted a market sizing to assess the number of potential users and patients to benefit from this solution. Finally, we helped our client in understanding and navigating the purchasing process for such a solution.
Mapping and selecting artificial intelligence providers for digital pathology applications
A leader in the medical device industry was searching for a competent partner in programming artificial intelligence applications for digital pathology, with the objective to extend its product offering.
To do so, we conducted a global scouting of innovative AI providers, which were notably analysed in terms of technological maturity, business maturity and their network strength.
Based of our work, a selection of prioritized providers was approached to explore opportunities of collaboration with our client.
Identification of the potential usages of AI in industrial production
Our client, a public institution, wanted to support industrials players in its region through the use of AI in their production activities.
To do so, we was called on to identify the potential usages of AI in production and to decipher how they could answer some key challenges faced by industrials.
Alcimed provided then recommendations regarding the modalities of AI integration in industrials processes (strategy to implement, stakeholders to involve, partnerships to set up, etc.) so that the potential usages identified and selected could quickly be operational.
Support for a major player in the pharmaceutical industry in landscaping in-silico players with applications in digitalizing pharma R&D
Alcimed helped a player in the pharmaceutical industry in exploring the field of in-silico and its applications in pharma digitalization with the goal of identifying partners and players to help digitalize our client’s R&D. This included machine learning, artificial intelligence, digital twins, simulations, mathematical models, among other digital solutions to accelerate research by saving time and costs.
Alcimed identified key trends in pharma digitalization and several companies to potentially partner with our client via desk research and interviews with KOLs, and then deep-dived into the capabilities of prioritized companies by interviewing key stakeholders within these organizations.
Our study enabled our client to get a clear vision on potential partners and the way to digitalize its Research & Development.
Recommendation on positioning of a leading electronics company on the AI market for analyzing medical images
A world leader in providing technical solutions wanted to reinforce their position in the healthcare sector.
To do so, they wanted to better understand the issues related to AI-based analysis of images in order to identify the opportunities in this market, the main players present, the needs and expectations of clients, and to thereby find a unique and differentiating position that responds to the segment’s expectations.
To do so, Alcimed first characterized the market of AI-based medical image analysis by mapping out the key challenges and analyzing the market’s value chain. Afterward, we identified the market’s value sources and analyzed two major use cases.
Finally, we established recommendations for whether or not our client should become involved in this segment of the market.
Valuation of a high-performance computing platform in the fields of Health
We helped a start-up from a large Research Institute in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, to define its priority application markets and its development strategy in the healthcare industries.
This company had developed an innovative neural network technology and a calculation preparation methodology allowing a very significant increase in processing power (computing) as well as an intelligent parallelization of the analyzes. It was initially positioned in the fields of Physics and sought to open a new development path towards Health.
We helped them first identify and segment, in the Healthcare industries, the applications relevant to their approach. Then, through a field investigation and a multi-criteria analysis, we selected priority areas.
Finally, we helped them, in the fields of application selected, understand the profiles of the companies and functions to be approached as well as define for each field the value proposition that would echo the concrete needs identified with them.
Identification and assessment of partners offering artificial intelligence solutions in eHealth for drug repurposing
Alcimed provided support to a pharmaceutical stakeholder in exploring and conducting in-depth analysis of start-ups and SMEs offering artificial intelligence services in order to discover new therapeutic candidates. More precisely, the challenge was to put forward preferential partners to conduct the repositioning of molecules (“drug repurposing”).
The result of the project was a recommendation of 4 companies from among upwards of 150 at international level, enabling the subject to be framed for our client but also to provide clear reasoning as to the partnerships upon which to focus in the targeted therapeutic areas.

Founded in 1993, Alcimed is an innovation and new business consulting firm, specializing in innovation driven sectors: life sciences (healthcare, biotech, agrifood), energy, environment, mobility, chemicals, materials, cosmetics, aeronautics, space and defence.
Our purpose? Helping both private and public decision-makers explore and develop their uncharted territories: new technologies, new offers, new geographies, possible futures, and new ways to innovate.
Located across eight offices around the world (France, Europe, Singapore and the United States), our team is made up of 220 highly-qualified, multicultural and passionate explorers, with a blended science/technology and business culture.
Our dream? To build a team of 1,000 explorers, to design tomorrow’s world hand in hand with our clients.
Alcimed carries out consulting missions in a variety of fields and on topics as diverse as the uncharted territories of our clients! Our projects and the methodological approaches we develop are based on the specific needs and contexts of our clients. We have chosen to operate without using pre-established methodologies. Our consultants always start from the context and from the specific questions of our clients and think about the best way to provide clear answers. Let’s forget methodological approaches of copy-pasting.
We’re not consultants, we’re explorers! Working with a consulting firm like Alcimed means living a different experience, with a team that always favors face-to-face meetings, goes beyond classic deliverables in favor of innovative ones (videos, data visualization tools, websites, collaborative platforms, …), that favors interactive animations in projects (escape games, quizzes, board games, role-playing games, video games, …), and that loves to make clients discover unusual places!
In simple terms, artificial intelligence is referring to the development of software that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. Such tasks could be solving complex problems, making decisions, or detecting objects.
Machine learning, a subtype of AI, is a technology which provides software with the capability to learn automatically, to recognize patterns and to improve from experience.
